Breathe Clean Air is a response to the 2020 global pandemic. A nylon “skirt” with a cinch strap attaches to any fan. A mesh pocket with roll top holds standard HVAC filters to create a cost-effective air purifier.
Breathe Clean Air is a response to the 2020 global pandemic. Ripstop nylon joins a fan to HVAC filter creating a cost-effective air purifier. A cinch strap attaches to multiple fans. A mesh pocket makes changing filters easy.
This work was made within the Masters of Design program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Inspired by the maker movement response to Covid-19, this project explores design as an idea rather than a product. So, the plans are shared for those interested in making their own. Ideas are resourceful, move faster than production, and leave room for customization.
Attaching a filter to a box fan is not a new idea. Breathe Clean Air seeks refinement by improving the air seal, alleviating motor strain, fitting multiple fans, and considering aesthetics.
